Tiahyn in Kivertsi

Even a small museum can be a driver of large territories and big changes. The Kivertsi Museum of Local Lore invited an exhibition about Tiahyn, and with this exhibition a new museum space was opened and even more – a new museum philosophy.

On 15 November 2024, the Kivertsi Museum of Local Lore opened the exhibition “Feel Tiahyn, breathe in south”. This day the museum presented a new space “The Museum Porch”, which is an inclusive place for meetings and dialogue. Indeed, our conversation with the Volyn residents about Tiahyn turned out to be informative and rich. We talked not only about art and archaeology, but also about refuting the Russian historical fake about the so-called “Novorossia”, about common medieval history, and about the continuity of the development of the Ukrainian nation.

The opening of the exhibition was welcomed by the mayor of Kivertsi, Oleksandr Kovalchuk, and members of the city council. Oleksandr Kovalchuk noted that the local authorities understand the potential of culture, as culture and history are also drivers of community development. The team of the project “Tiahyn Fortress as stronghold of the European history of the Ukrainian south” shared their experience of working with the Tyahyn community, which in a few years has gone from discovering its heritage to adopting a strategic community development plan, which includes the creation of the Tiahyn Fortress Historical and Cultural Park.

Together with the first visitors of the exhibition, including teachers and students of Volyn National University, we immersed ourselves in the history of Ukraine and felt how close the west, east, north and south of our country, in particular Tiahyn and Volyn, really are.

We thank for the cooperation:

The Kivertsi Local History Museum and its director, Oksana Sushchuk;
