Coins

Hall № 6

Coin finds which testify various trade contacts, as well as active customs activities on the border between East and West, are displayed in the hall. Juchid coins with Kafin countermarks indicate contacts with Genoese Kafa in the Crimea. Billon denarii of the Kraków King Władysław Warneńczyk (1434–1444) indicate contacts with distant Poland, already in the first half of the 15th century. Crimean Khanate coins with the late 15th century Mengli Giray tamga are especially numerous. There is also one antiquity, two early Ottoman, and one Russian coin. Up to 90% of coins are silver, and the rest were made of bronze and copper. All coins were identified by a well-known Ukrainian specialist in the field of medieval numismatic studies, Dr. H.A. Kozubovskyi.
